Question about body fat percentage and fat thickness? If two people both had the same body fat percentage but are different weights, won't the heaiver person be able to pinch a thicker layer of fat than the lighter person even though they have the same body fat percentage? I guess to clarify yes the people are the same height, different builds but the same percentage of body fat. It just seems that the bigger build person would be able to pinch a thicker layer of fat. But then if it was height we'd be assuming the taller person had a bigger build and again it would seem like the taller person would be able to pinch more fat at the same percentage as the smaller build shorter person.
On and electronic scale, what body fat percentage is optimal? I am familar with BMI however, the electronic scale I purchased gives readings based on body fat percentage. Help with calculating and determining Body Fat Percentage loss for a friendly competition.? I began a body fat % loss challenge with some friends. I'd like to know the best way to determine the winner. We thought about going off of weight percentage lost, but felt it would be unfair to those who had less weight to lose. There were also some concern because some wanted to lift weights... so then we went with whoever dropped more body fat percentage. But we feel unsure about using this method. We feel someone who started at 45% body fat would have an easier time dropping than someone with 20% body fat. This is where the problem arises. What should we do? How do we judge the winner fairly?
Are body fat percentage calculators accurate? I bought a hand held body fat percentage calculator from shopko, about $15.00 and I was wondering if they were accurate? Is it possible to measure the body fat percentage on a particular section of my body? I'd like to know how much of certain parts of my body are fat vs. muscle. Is there anyway to determine this? I don't want to lift weights using certain parts of my body if I already have enough muscle there. I'm not worried about looking like a body builder but I still don't want the muscle to get any bigger, I just want to burn the fat that is there, if any. Particularly around my butt and thighs.

When is the most accurate time to measure body fat percentage? I have a scale that measures weight and body fat. I've noticed an almost 4 point swing between taking a reading in the morning and in the afternoon. So which is more accurate? Body Fat Percentage and Muscle Mass? If someone has a healthy body fat percentage, but is technically underweight according to BMI, would this mean the person had insufficient muscle mass. How can you differentiate between a healthy body fat percentage in someone with a good level of muscle mass and an unhealthy level of muscle mass. Otherwise someone could be deemed as healthy, but have unhealthily low levels of muscle mass. For example, a 5ft2 female loses with only 70lb of lean muscle and 20lb of fat. She would have what appears to be a healthy 22% body fat level even though she only weighs 90lb, yet her lean body mass appears far too low (unless she is very small boned indeed). I don't see how this can be healthy. In fact she could just keep losing weight and still have a healthy body fat percentage due to all the muscle loss. So is there a minimum lean muscle mass amount people should have to be healthy? TIA
How to find body fat percentage? I want to see what percent of fat is on my body. How do I do that? I know they have those machines in water to do that but I dont have one. Please and thank you.

Body Fat Percentage Question? Hi, I have a quick question about body fat percentage. Recently I had my body fat measured by an electronic device in my local gym which I had to hold at arms length. I was around 11 stones at that time, and my body fat percentage was 19%. Today I took the reading again, with my weight at 10 stones 7 pounds, and had a body fat of 19.8%. Does this mean that I have only being losing muscle not fat? How is this possible? Is there a possibility that the measurement was incorrect- if not I'm a bit scared lol! it must mean I've lost over half a stone in muscle not in fat!! What the hell is going on! I do cardio and resistance machines, and have weights at home- am I doing something criticallly wrong -lol!!! Cheers for your help Cheers for the proper answers- but run, walk swim? wot help is that? I'm going to the gym every day, where I'm doing 2hrs of cardiovascular plus 40 mins swimming- so saying that doesn't help.
Decreasing body fat percentage? So I've done a teeny tiny bit of research and think I have come up with a pretty good estimate of my body fat percentage using online calculators. I used 7 different calculators and averaged them all together and have found out that my body fat percentage is around 25.42%. I am an athlete and due to the needs of my sport (jumping, being quick and agile, etc.) I've decided it would be to my benefit to decrease my body fat percentage to about 18.5%. So, I would have to lose approximately 6.92% of my body mass (body fat). This would be around 8lbs. I do not want to lose any lean muscle mass; I am aiming to lose pure body fat. What is the best way to go about this? My schedule is tight, but I do have a gym membership close by... i.e. Sunday-practice (1-3) Monday-school(7-2), work (2:30-7), practice (8-10) Tuesday-school (7-2),off/work (230-7) Wednesday-school (7-2), work (2:30-5), practice (6:30-9:30) Thursday-school (7-2), off/work (2:30-7) Friday-school (7-2), work (2:30-6) *sorry... 6.92% of 143 (my weight): .0692 x 143=9.895... So about 10 lbs. is what I need to lose. I am female, 5'7", and 143lbs.

body fat percentage question? i did a body fat percentage test online, and it says i have 23.2 percent body fat, 39.7 body fat, 131.3 lean muscle. i do agree that i have alot of muscle and some fat, i'm 5'4 and 16... is this a healthy body fat percentage? i feel hugeee anyway! http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home-body-fat-test-2774-143.html#healthyamount?ic=506016
Body fat percentage? I got my body fat percentage taken for softball, and they used a caliper. After they were done, they came up with a number...48. I know that my body fat percentage isn't 48% because that would be completely ridiculous, and I only weigh 120 pounds. Do they convert 48 into a percentage? If so, what would my body fat percentage be? They wouldn't tell me! haha.
Body fat %? I was just wondering what the normal body fat percentage should be for a 16 year old female. I took a test today that said mine was 24%. I'm very content with my body , but i was just wondering if that was average or above or what. Thanks for all your help!
my body fat percentage is 10% is this bad? I have read that athlete women should not have a body fat percentage that's lower than 20%. When I went to a nutritionist she calculated my body fat for me and it was 11%, thru out highschool and college it's hovered between 10-11& (at highest percent). But yet I am 5'1 and 110 lbs. That leaves me with almost 10 lbs of fat on my body while the rest is muscle mass. Is this bad? I used to be a dancer, and before a gymnast, I've always been small and I feel fine this way. Are there any negatives effects of having too low a body fat % asides from period loss. I get my period as long as I am over 98lbs. Do you think I am healthy??? I was wierded out by the fact that my bdy fat % is so low, I'm small boned + all but I do not look like a refugee at all. Advice would help anyone who knows anythng about what body fat means and what it does to your general health...........THANKS!!
Optimum Conditions for Lowering Body Fat Percentage? Under what conditions will your body fat percentage drop the quickest and fastest. (i.e target weight x 1.5 = grams of protein to eat a day). Please include diet as far as protein fat carbs etc no specific foods. Also what is the target amount of time to keep heart rate elevated to burning fat without burning off muscle at what point does muscle get broken down ? Now notice I said body fat percentage and not just fat loss. The idea is to lower the body fat increase muscle mass/density therefor lowering the percentage of body fat. Im not looking to gain X amount of muscle and lose Y amount of fat. Im curious as to at what point in nutrition and working out will it be the body fat % drop the fastest. Obviously its not gonna be EXACT for everyone but im sure there are formulas guidelines etc that can be applied to the general population. I ask this question after noticing many misconceptions on weight loss and slimming down. Im hoping this will be helpful to others as well as myself.

High percentage of body fat...what can I do? I'm an eighteen year old female, 168cm (5'6"), 61kg (134 pounds), and i have a BMI of 21.7, which is in the 'normal' range. However, I recently joined a gym and discovered that i have a body fat percentage of over 30%, which is very high for someone of my age/height/etc. So, my question is, what weight should I be if I were to have a normal body fat percentage. I mean, how many kgs/pounds of fat should i lose to bring me to under 25% body fat which is considered 'normal'. I don't care about my weight so much but i do want to reduce my body fat. Currently I try to go to the gym 3 times a week for about 1-1.5 hours each session. I am using the treadmill, bikes, and lifting weights...but I don't know it doesnt seem to be helping? what body fat percentage do i need to have washboard abs? I have a body fat percentage of 9.7%, im 6'1" male, 18 years old, and 150lbs, and wish to have washboard abs, and well sculpted, defined muscles. I am building all of my muscles with weigh training and have been since the new year, and have noticed some good improvements. However i still cannot get a really exquisite 6 pack, although it is kind of there, as it seems to be covered with a layer of around a half centimetre of fat. Do i just need to build my 6 pack more, or should i go to lose even more fat? I already have an extremely low amount of relative body fat compared to most people. What percentage of body fat do those guys who look immaculate on the cover of fitness magazines and advertising aftershave have?
Body fat percentage? How come a person having lower body weight and same height has more body fat percentage than a person with more weight and same heights? One of my mates is 5.7 ,125 lbs,25% body fat.I am 5.7 170 lbs,14 % body fat.
body fat percentage (female)? i have been going hardcore to the gym since february and i have one of those electronic impedence scales that show body fat percentage. I have lost probably 15 lbs since january. I have been eating VERY well, weight training and doing HIIT cardio. Everyone says i they can't believe how disciplined i have been. HOWEVER....my scale says i have only lost a little over 2% body fat (i'm down in the 27% range) I also take the EC stack 2x a day, multi vitamin, calcium, lots of protein to make for muscle regrowth (this includes whey). OK so my question is....WHY have i ONLY lost 2% in like 4 months? This is getting VERY frustrating. I know i'm eating an acceptable range of calories (around 1400-1600 a day) and am in that damn gym 5 to 6 days a week. How much is a normal fat loss percentage in what period of time??? HELP!!!!!
Vegetarians and body fat percentage? Hi, I am vegetarian. I think it is a healthier diet than a nonvegetarian one if you are careful (e.g., emulate Jay Kordich, Jack Lalanne, Martina Navratilova, Bill Pearl etc...). My question is that what can I do to reduce my body fat percentage if I prefer to continue not to eat meat (including no chicken and fish, which I consider as meat)? I weigh 175 lbs (great for a guy in his late 20s), but my body fat percentage is 23 -- which I don't like, especially since a lot of the fat is concentrated in the sides of my waist and sides of my lower stomach and chest (and face every time I gain a few pounds of weight). I prefer not to see my total weight fall below 170 lbs, but I really would love to see my body fat percentage got to 17-18 percent. I think I can't make it go to under 15 percent due to genetics.

Body fat percentage? I'm 16 years old, female, 5'2 and was 93 lbs last time I checked (a while ago, but i don't think I've gained any weight). My measurements are 30-25-32. I eat a lot, but I have a naturally tiny frame. I also do no exercise, so I am not in the least bit toned. I've taken my body fat percentage FIVE times, and each time it was 32%!! Everywhere I've looked online has told me that this is OBESE!! I mean I know I'm not fit or particularly healthy, but OBESE??!! i DO NOT have an eating disorder, and I know that I'm really skinny, so basically my question is: WTF is up with my body fat percentage?!!! From Wikipedia: http://i30.tinypic.com/o8whn6.jpg Please help! Thanks in advance! x P.S. Please don't b.itch about how skinny I am. I eat loads and never gain, meaning I am naturally this way. I am working on it and I try to eat as much as possible, but don't make rude comments because I've always been tiny. It runs in the family and I can't help it.
My body fat percentage came out really high? Today I had my body fat percentage measured on a scale with an error margin of 4%. I'm 5'9" and weigh 170 pounds and have broud shoulders and wide hips (I'm not talking about just fat hips, while they are fat, the bone is wide). Well, it came out to 37.4%. There was a fitness question you had to answer (excercising 3 times a week with a high heart rate over the past 3 months) and since this was in my aerobics class, I assumed the answer was yes. I didn't know whether this was innacurate and thus made the percentage innacurate, but it just seemed wrong.. Most people say that my weight of 170 doesn't even make sense and I look average. How is it, then, that my body fat % would come out 7.4% above obese for women? :/
Body Fat Percentage - ARGH!? I'm 16 years old, female, 5'2 and was 93 lbs last time I checked (a while ago, but i don't think I've gained any weight). My measurements are 30-25-32. I eat a lot, but I have a naturally tiny frame. I also do no exercise, so I am not in the least bit toned. I've taken my body fat percentage FIVE times, and each time it was 32%!! How can I get my body fat percentage to go up really fast? I have this dumb P.E. class where at the beginning of the year we all got our body fat percentage measured. I lost points on this assignment because I didn't have "healthy" body fat percentage (between 12% and 25%). I tested in at around 8% body fat. How can I try and make my body fat percentage go up really fast with only a month left before the final test? I don't own a body fat tester, but I think that I have maybe gained 1 percent or so. If I lose any more points, I'll be in risk of getting a sort of crappy grade.
High Body Fat Percentage but Small Size...why? I'm 5'5 1/2, i wear a size 4 to size 6...but my body fat percentage is 27%!! reccommmended amount is said to be 18-22% my friend is around the same height and she's a size 8-10, but her body fat is 20%, that's a huge difference! i mean it's so weird...i look 'slimmer' and smaller in size, but i'm actually fatter than she is, she does look more toned than i do even though she is thicker, while i am 'skiny flabby', with protruding hip and collar bones but bits of flab here and there....and no, she's not a fitness freak who exercises constantly, and neither am i. why is this? if i do get down to 20% body fat am i gonna be just a bag of bones, considering i'm already a size 4-6 at 27%? i don't want to get muscular or anything, but i would like to tone up and get my BF% down. the most detailed explanation gets 10 points...i really would like to understand why this is so....maybe genetics?
BMI and body fat percentage? I bought a Tanita scale. It says it measures 3 things: (1) Weight (2) Body Fat percentage (3) Body Water percentage. Is the Body Fat percentage (which has been around 27.5 to 28.5 ) the same thing as a BMI ? I know I am 10 to 20 lbs overweight.
Is my body fat percentage healthy? I am a slender woman in my late twenties. I recently stepped on a scale at a friend house that measures body fat percentage (I really can't comprehend how this works, but it supposedly does). It said I had a body fat percent of 20%. My friend said this is high. I know that you can be slender and still have a high body fat percentage. Is mine healthy?
slighlt over body fat percentage? i was wondering can i still do around 100 sit ups and other execises to get a six pack whilst working on getting below the body fat percentage so that it shows. will it show after i have lost the body fat or do you only have to start when your below the body fat percentage?
Body Fat Percentage? I'm 15, weigh 207lbs, 5''8", and my waist is 38". My body fat percentage is 25%. Is it possible to get to 10% body fat or at least a slim waist in 4months w/ proper diet and exercise?
Concerned about possible high Body Fat percentage? Hiya everyone, I just have a little question about body fat etc. I've not had a chance to have my body fat calculated but from a hunch I would generalize that i'm not in a fantastic position regarding it. I've just turned 20, Male, I'm 5'10" and only 9.5 stone (133 pounds). However I feel quite flabby around the waist which doesn't seem like such a huge problem when i'm standing up, my navel just seems to be pretty average, not flat, but not fat either. However when I sit down, It's like i'm just as overweight as somebody almost obese. Hope i've made my dilemma as clear as possible and what would you suggest? People always comment me as being thin but from what I read, you can look slim to people but have a high body fat percentage. If I loose body fat won't that affect my overall weight? Which is already on the underweight scale for somebody of my height.
Body Fat percentage? what is considered as a excellent body fat pecentage for a male and what is consered low body fat percentage
Body Fat Percentage? How do you determine what your ideal percentage of body fat should be? Or what is that percentage? I'm 20 years old 160 LBS 5'11"
What could cause a high percentage of body fat at a low weight? I had my body-fat percentage tested with my general physician, and he guessed beforehand that it would be around 20% or slightly lower, at the healthy weight of 115 lbs. Well, he was shocked when it said my body fat percentage was actually 30%. However, he didn't do anything about it but tell me to lose a few pounds. This was a few months ago, and I've actually gained weight - 10 lbs - since then. I'm a vegetarian and I eat healthy and exercise... but I did start taking birth control which may have caused the weight gain. I'm concerned about my body-fat percentage, however. Although I am at a "healthy weight" 30% body fat is considered obese/unhealthy. I don't look fat, but my health is important! Does anyone know what it could be or what I should do?
My body fat percentage is 30%?? OMG this website said my body fat percentage is like 30% and that's like fat!! Wrist: 5.5 inches Fattest part of arm: 8.5 inches Forearm: 7 inches Thigh: 16 inches Am I actually fat? If I am, do you have any tips for me?? Please help!!! And thank you!!

Wondering about body fat percentage? I am 14 years old about 5' 10" and about 145-150 lbs. We did a body fat percentage test in my class and I got 22.2% body fat and a bmi of about 21. I was wondering if that is normal or bad for me. I am not really big or fat and I'm pretty much just normal throughout. Thank You.
My body fat percentage is too high. Why? I have been getting my body fat percentage checked at the gym for the past 9 months and it's been the same since last week. It went up fom 29 to 30.5%. I am 31 years old, female, about 5 ft tall and weigh 115 lbs. My diet is very good. I consume 1500 calories a day. I eat steamed vegetables every day and fruit. I go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week. I do cardio, weight lifting, swimming, etc. Why is it still so high? I don't understand it. What happens if it gets higher? Please help.
Is my body fat percentage too low? I'm a 15 and a half male teenager who is 5" 3' and 103 lbs. I've been to a doctor and he told me my body fat percentage is %2.5. I exercise every day( push ups and sit ups) and I don't eat that healthy all the time. Is this percentage of body fat dangerous for my health?

My main question is what my diet should be like (when should I eat? when should i not? what kind of stuff should i eat?) Would protein or creatine help my cause? If so, when should I take it.
Body fat percentage? I need to know fast and effective ways to lower my body fat percentage. I am attempting to join the National Guard and I'm 2% over. Any ideas for workouts? Calculating body fat percentage? I'm starting the zone diet and the back of the book tells me how to measure my body fat percentage by taking measurements. However, I have a scale that does the same thing. I used both methods and one is 31% (scale) while the other is 39% (zone method). Which should I use? The scale takes into account my age, height, and gender.

Question about my ideal body fat percentage? I am 5'3". I put in my height, hips, waist and neck measurements fairly accurately, and this is what it gave me: Your Recommended Blocks Your weight is: 103 pounds Your sex is: Female Your Body Fat percentage is: 29 Your Lean Body Mass is: 73 pounds Your 'Ideal' weight is: 89 pounds Your activity factor is: 0.83 Your recommend blocks per day are: 8 (60 grams of protein) I'm 15 years old. Is this accurate, am I really supposed to weigh 89 pounds? If my body fat percentage is correct, then they are telling me I'm overweight. =/ Soo is this site right or what? (http://www.he.net/~zone/prothd2.html) don't worry, i wasn't planning on stopping eating or anything! i'm not stupid. just confused. i'm going to continue being active and doing what i'm doing no matter what....thanks though! :)
BMI, Height/Weight Charts and Body Fat Percentage? I am 24yo M who weighs 236lb. I have lost 80 pounds of fat and 62 total pounds in the last year. My lowest weight was 225lb, but my trainer tells me that my body fat percentage is 2 points lower now then it was then. It is now at %17.9 making me have about 43 lbs of fat. I also have a large body frame. My question is, according to BMI and height/weight charts, I am still really obese. Many weight charts are telling me I need to get bellow 180lbs. My question is, if I removed over 50 lbs to get into that range, wouldn't I have to remove more fat than is physically possible? My trainer tells me I need that muscle to help keep my metabolism up. Is that right? We had plateaued before, but I'm loosing fat again with the extra muscle and I can run (8m a week) now instead of using ellipticals and bikes, but I weigh more. What's going on? I am really confused.
