I have been doing regular exercise and eating a healthy diet and it is hard for me to keep track of my progress. My weight has gone up slightly but I assume that is muscle weight. How can I keep track?

BEFORE or AFTER working out and drinking water, by using hand-held analyzer at the gym . does it make a big difference if these steps are taken AFTER an hour of cardio and lower body workout?
How accurate are body fat scales? I have lost 21 pounds (started at 168lbs) and weight train 3 to 6 days per week. The problem is my scale says 34 % body fat. The same percentage as when i started. Whats up with that ....everyone says the body fat scales are so accurate?????
How to measure body fat with machine? I just bought this electric machine to measure body fat. Should I use first thing in the morning without food and water in me. How would I best use it the get exact readings? will it be afected if am wearing shoes or barefoot? It is not a scale, you hold in your hands...
Does the price in Body Fat scales matter? Some are 10-20 pound more expensive than others, but for what reason? I thought it was basically the scales send some sort of a current through your body to measure the fat. Does more expensive mean more accurate or is it just the brand name?
How do body fat analysis scales calculate body fat % for women? I've just bought some body fat analyser scales (Salter ones). When I weigh me and my boyfriend his body fat is 15% and mine is 26%. If I set myself as male it drops to 16%. if I set my boyfriend's setting to female, his rises to 25%. If I get the measurement done at the gym with calipers, he is 15%, i am 16%. Why the disparity between male/female settings on the scales? What is right?
How do weight scales with body fat percentage calculation work? Hello, I am in a competetion where the total of weight percentage loss and fat percentage loss determines the winner. Besides diet and exercise, is there anything specific I can do on the final days of the competetion to squeeze out an extra 0.5% in body fat percentage by tricking the scale? For example, if I drink a gallon of water before the weigh-in that will add pounds but could it decrease body fat percentage? The scale for body fat % is measured in increments by 0.5%, so just a slight variation can cause it to go from 10.0 to 9.5% for example. That small of a difference can be huge on the final tally.
How accurate are body fat % scales? I usually check my body fat % a couple times a week and it's pretty consistent, I was just wondering how accurate the readings are. Is it off by 1-2 numbers or way off? I ask because my fat % is a little low for a woman, but i do cardio, pull ups, push ups, & crunches 6-7 times a week. my number usually says 13-14 %
Exactly how accurate are body-fat measuring scales? I recently bought myself one of those body-fat measuring scales, stepped on it and it showed me a reading of about 6-8% body fat. I am 17 years old, male, 5'10, 136 pounds just for the record. I am wondering how accurate is that reading?
how accurate are those scales with body fat readers? thinking of getting 1 to monitor by exercise regimen. i'm pretty sure the scale would be accurate, but how about the body fat readers on those scales that sends electrical signals thru your feet. i actually dont see how accurate that would be so decided to ask. alternatively, is there a better tool to measure body fat? thx.
How do scales that measure body fat work? We just bought one of those Health o meter scales that measure body fat, hydration levels and bone density. We were wondering how the scale measured it, because someone told us it was impossible for a scale to measure it.
How accurate are the scales that measure body fat? I am speaking of the floor scales that anyone can purchase for little more than a simple bathroom scale. Apparently they generate an electronic current through your body that is then measured to calculate your body fat percentage. I understand how such a device is supposed to work but I wonder how it compares to a professional body fat percentage test. It just seems like a consumer product rather than a scientific instrument. Thoughts?
are body fat percentages on scales accuarate? i am 5'2 and my scale says i weight 123 and my body fat percentage is 26% is this accuarte should i lose weight? i am a medium frame by the way. what other ways can i find my body fat percentage? are online bmi calculaters accurate?
Can I trust the trend of my body fat scale? I have gained 5 pounds since January; however, my body fat has gone from a high point of 20 to a high point of 18.5 when dehydrated, and a low point of 17 to a low point of 14.5 when fully hydrated. Can I trust that my body fat has indeed gone down, even though Tanita scales aren't always 100% accurate about body fat?
Are scales with body fat percentage worth the extra money? I've recently started a new fitness regimen, and I want a good digital scale to track my weight. I've seen some that also claim to be able to accurately measure BFP. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with these scales, and can tell me if the BFP reported is accurate and precise enough to warrant the extra money. If it's just a gimmick then I'll just get a good scale and have my gym do a caliper test every so often. Thanks.
What body fat analyzer scale should I buy? I'm looking to buy a body fat scale, and have no idea what one to buy. I have been told Tanita is a good brand, but I truly don't know. I'm not looking to spend too much on it (~$60), and I would like one that's got a body water % analyzer too, if possible. Does anyone have any experience with them? The ones I saw in the stores were ~$50, and were Taylor, Conair WeightWatchers, and Healthometer. I want to get this scale to monitor fat percentage. I am trying to lose weight, but mostly fat. My current weight isn't really high for my height or overweight, but my fat percentage (the last time I did an evaluation at the gym) was very high (27% ish). Just seeing the scale show a lower number doesn't mean I've actually done anything good for my body, which is why I want to monitor fat loss. And I like the water function because I never drink enough water and this would keep motivating me to drink more by scaring me every morning with low numbers. :o) I am aware of how to burn fat. This question pertains to the scale so I can monitor how much fat I burn.
How accurate is a body fat scale, and why is my fat level going so low? Im a 15 y.o male. I have a tanita body fat scale. I used it last month and it said 16% BF, i used it 2 weeks ago and it said 14%. Today it said 12.7%. I haven't been dieting, i've been lifting weights a little and my weight hasn't changed at all. Did i actually get that much more fit, or is it a fluke? how can i keep my data consistent?
I will be having a pot for my family and freinds who are wanting to loose weight.? The game plan is that everyone that joins will contribute $100. I want atleast 20 people so it can equal $2000, to make it competitive. It will be a two month deal, whoever looses the most body fat or % of fat will win $2000. The question I have is what is the best thing to do: 1. Weight ( scale) 2. BMI Formula Does anyone have any suggestions??? It will start on April 1, 2007.
Are bodyweight and body-fat scales accurate? Mine says I'm 25% body fat but I'm 6 feet tall 32 inch waist, and weight 175lbs. I'm slender but built strong with just a faint sign of a sare tire around the middle. Could I really be 25% body fat? I would've guessed 15%
Question about scales that measure percent body fat? I just bought a new electronic scale that measures weight and percent body fat. The problem is that I get different readings whenever I use it. It's told me that my percent body fat is as high as 29% and as low as 14%. Is there a secret to using these for a consistent result?
Are bathroom scales that measure body fat, muscle, etc dangerous? Mum bought bathroom scales that send an electrical current through your body to measure % body fat, muscle, etc. She's paranoid and insist that it's dangerous, however I told her it's no worse than getting an electric shock. How can I convince her that these are perfectly safe? For instance, does anyone know how the current and voltage compares to an electric shock?
How accurate are BIA body fat scales? About a month and a half ago I got caliper tested for bf% at a health club and they told me I was 18%. I've exercised for at least an hour every day since then and I've been on a low calorie diet. I haven't lost a single pound, but I do look thinner (I can see my top two ab muscles now). Today I bought a body fat scale, mesured myself three times today at different times of the day and each time it was around 8 to 9% body fat. I heard that anyone under 10% would have six pack abs but as I said I can only see my top two. Also, 10% seems like a lot to loose in a month and a half (though I don't know a whole lot about fitness). Anyone know roughly how accurate these things are? Also, can piercings effect the accuracy of body fat scales? I have three (piercings). I need to know because I'm supposed to be under 10% before I start my muscle building diet.
Why do you have to put in your sex on the scales that measure body fat? I would of thought fat was fat no matter what sex you are. Also if the scales measure muscles why do you have less muscle if you set it to female and more fat? Which is the accurate one? Does it matter which you set it to? Sorry for going on. Thanx for any help :-) I understand women have more fat because of having babies.
How do innerscan scales (that measure body fat %, etc.) work? I am looking into buying a Tanita innerscan scale. Can anyone tell me how it can supposedly measure one's body fat %, body water %, muscle mass etc? And can you tell me if you know, how accurate that you think they are? http://www.tanita.com/InnerscanScales.shtml
Digital body fat scales? UM how are they suposed to tell you're body fat by you're age and height. It dosn't give you a choice to ask weather you are small boned, muscly, big boobs, large head lol? So how does it tell?
Did I harm My Baby By Using a Body Fat Scale? My husband got a new scale and it's one of the fancy ones that calcualte your body fat also, by passing an electric current through your body. Well, I stepped on it to see how I'm doing as far as proper weight gain and it told me my body fat, although at this point I know it doesn't matter. Anyways, I was reading through the manual and it says that pregnant women should not use due to the current. If I only stepped on it once, what are the chances that I did harm to my baby?
Do weighing scales that measure body fat % actually work? There's a weighing machine at our local super market and you put your hands on 2 handles at the side and it also measures your body fat %. I've used it twice and both times it's shown 21.5% - do you think this is precise or should I take it with a pinch of salt?
I have measured a persons body fat using hand held & scales with widely different results...why? It is a lady who does a lot of yoga, her upper body is showing as 37.9% (hand held machine) & lower as 15.3% (scales), any ideas of why so vastly diff? When I do me it gives simiar results for both my top & bottom. Do you think it could be due to her yoga? Both results were taken one after another. I understand that the measurements are taken from different area's of her body but she does not look as if her body hold all the fat in her upper torso. Thanks Nicky
According to my body fat scale, mine is going up.....why?? 23yr old male here..... I baught a new scale with a body fat analyizer in it 2 months ago when I started to work out. My first reading said that I weighed 236lbs and 30% body fat (so I was very overweight) Since then I have hit the gym 4-5x a week for 30-40 minutes of cardio and a good weight lifting workout. My strength gains have been significant and my body is looking better and am down 2 inches in my pants waist( i still have a bit to go) Last ngiht I did my bi-weekly weigh in and my weight was 213lbs, but my body fat registered at 31.7%!! I am totally confused, is my scale wrong or did I really incread e my body fat, i dont see how that is possible... My diet is improved as well... 23yr old male here
my body fat estimate: I did online calculators and my body fat scale at home? but I get very different numbers. I get 14 on one website that just asked me for my weight and hip measurement, and 16 on another one that asked me for weight, hip, waist, wrist, and forearm measurements. But then my home scale says that my BF% is 20.5%, why the big difference and which method is more accurate of the ones I did? Yes I did take the measurements properly. Thanks in advance.
Body Fat % - Scales or Calipers? I heard that calipers are much more accurate, but is the margin of error significant-- even amongst the higher end scales? I'm not overly intense about the measurements, I'm just a very goal-oriented person and it keeps me motivated. I know if I'm not trained to use calipers I shouldn't, I'm just trying to see if technology has finally caught up in the scale department so that I could potentially buy one? Any recommendations on what scale to buy? (Or types of calipers?)
Body fat analysis scales? Hi all, I have just bought a new set of bathroom scales, they show you your body fat %, water % and muscle %. My stats are 162cm, 65.8cm, bodyfat 26.6%, water 50.4% and muscle 31.4%. Problem is, I dont know what is good and whats not! Can anyone help?? Sorry thats meant to be 65.8KG
Question about those scales that also tell you your body fat%? Can anyone help me with this one? My Husband and I are having a dispute over those kind of scales. I dont know how they work as far as measuring your body fat, but he is saying that it is impossible for it to know that kind of information. Does anyone out there know how it can determine your body fat percentage? Also, if you know how it can determine how much water is in your body; please answer that one too, since I know our next dispute will be over that next (lol). Thanks
are body fat scales any accurate? mine reads 19 percent in the morning 17ish midday and like 15 and night but when i do the tape measure method online it says 11 percent i have a small waist and i run about 5 miles daily except for sundays and i also weight train 4 times a week
my body fat % varies on different scales? i bought three different scales that measures body fat and though they all got my weight and water % down the same, my body fat % varies greatly. one scale measure 20%, another measured 60% and the last one measured 30%. how accurate are these scales? which scale would you recommend?
Is my Taylor Body Fat Scale inaccurate? I just bought a new Taylor Body fat scale because I read how accurate they are. I have used the scale to measure my body fat a number of times over the last several days. The scale is very inconsistant. Alot of the time it says my body fat is 13% but sometimes it will jump up to 18%. I have also gotten every number in between 13% and 18%. Whats up with the scale? Am I doing something wrong to make the reading be so inconsistant? Should I just return the stupid thing?
At what weight and/or body fat percentage can I expect to see a somewhat flat stomach? I'm a 25 y/o male who has gone from 430lbs to a current weight of 235lbs. I bought a body fat calculating scale and it claims that I'm currently at 19% body fat. So is there any window that I could reasonably expect to achieve a semi-flat stomach? If needed, I'm currently running 8 miles a day, and lifting weights at the local gym every day to every other day.
On and electronic scale, what body fat percentage is optimal? I am familar with BMI however, the electronic scale I purchased gives readings based on body fat percentage. It says that I'm around 35% and that it falls into te upper end of the optimal range (by looking at the bars). However, the scale didn't come with a chart. I'd like to know what kind of body fat percentage goal I should be aiming for; I'm 5'6 female 24 years old.
