How accurate are body fat scales?

I have lost 21 pounds (started at 168lbs) and weight train 3 to 6 days per week. The problem is my scale says 34 % body fat. The same percentage as when i started. Whats up with that ....everyone says the body fat scales are so accurate?????

Public Comments

  1. most body fat scales i have seen are plus or minus 5-10% so for some one your size that can be a big diffence
  2. It is not true! every person has a different metabolism and you should listen to your body, it is the best! Trust me, I train dance for ten yrs, I know my job...
  3. i've heard that most are pretty accurate as they send waves through your body to determine water, fat and muscle density. if you are concerned about its accuracy, seek a professional to measure it for you. you can determine how close the scale is by doing it that way.
  4. Health clubs and Universities can do a accurate body fat assessment for you. Perhaps at no cost. Most scales used at home are 4% off.
  5. Unless you have lost 21lb of muscle and all that weight training has not added even 1lb of muscle, then I'd say you need to return those scales ASAP. Try buyings ones from Tanita or InnScales. HTH : )
