body fat scale reviews

I have measured a persons body fat using hand held & scales with widely different results...why?

It is a lady who does a lot of yoga, her upper body is showing as 37.9% (hand held machine) & lower as 15.3% (scales), any ideas of why so vastly diff? When I do me it gives simiar results for both my top & bottom. Do you think it could be due to her yoga? Both results were taken one after another. I understand that the measurements are taken from different area's of her body but she does not look as if her body hold all the fat in her upper torso. Thanks Nicky

  1. there is only one place to measure!!! measure about 1" above the pelvic bond and only use this as your result.
  2. I would not bother with biolectrical impedance at all as it's not very accurate. I would get some body fat callipers (Accu-Measure) and test the body fat percentage with those instead. Nothing will be 100% accurate, but it should be a lot more accurate than the handheld devices or scales.
