Is my body fat percentage goood?
Apparently I have 15% body fat, and I am carrying 17.4lbs of fat and 82.6lbs of "muscle". (I weigh 105lb and I am 5ft 4") I am a recovering anorexic, and I am still slightly underweight but I'm currently an outpatient so I should be getting there... I know body fat calculators aren't accurate, but it's just a rough guide (: I'm not an expert in he body fat area, so is this a good percentage? Thanks (:

- No, women are supposed to be 20-25%.
- Should be a little higher... like 18-25
- noooo
- your body fat is still low. having a low body fat percentage can cause a woman to stop having a menstrual cycle among other things it's not good.
- if you're a girl, then that is kind of low but not terribly low if you're a guy, then you are one odd looking person
- Well, that's slightly underweight. You want to be above 18%, so you're getting there! Enough body fat is important for the absorption of certain vitamins (some are absorbed through fat, some water, I forget which). You want you skin and hair to shine, your eyes to sparkle and to look your best. You've been through heaps, but that's a brilliant effort so far -- keep up the good work! :-)
- A woman's body fat percentage is always a little higher than males because without a certain body fat percentage, women cannot sustain life or have their regular cycle. Sometimes nature is at fault for our bodies and there is nothing we can do. But having a healthy body fat is ok, because if it drops to low, you could stop your cycle and have trouble getting pregnant in the future.
- Glad to hear you are on the right track for recovery. I would suggest not worrying about body fat % until you are back to a normal weight and are fully recovered. 15% is just fine for you right now. You may find that number goes down to as you continue to eat properly and start getting back to a normal, physical routine, as your body will begin to convert more energy to muscle. Best of luck.
- 15% is low, but a healthy low, average healthy none active person is around 25%. A person who worksout and is very active is about 12 - 15%. I personally am a gymnast an have to remain around 6 - 9 to remain as lean as possible. But i think you pretty good try to weigh around 112Lbs which i think should be good for you height
- 15% counts as 'Athletic' for a woman. so if you are athletic that's great if you don't do much excercise then do some and they you can rightly say you're athletic - positive affirmations about being athletic can only be good for you - even how you talk about yourself can be part of your process. keep up that 'athletic' look. ah i see i'm getting thumbs down so here's some source info to back up what i'm saying for the thumbs down brigade Description - Women Essential fat - 10–12% Athletes 14–20% Fitness 21–24% Acceptable 25–31% Obese 32%+
- For one thing, been there done that.To help your self recover completely, you shouldn't be worrying about your fat %,this will only make you think negative thoughts. It took me a long time to learn to accept myself for the way that I am,and learn to enjoy food, and not to treat it as my enemy.I am 5ft.3" and I weigh 115,and no it's not skinny, but I am healthy, and I don't care anymore about what the outside of my body shape is so much.Feeling in control of my health in a healthy way feels like a weight being lifted off my shoulders. In my opinion, you still have a few more pounds to add.Eat and exercises(but not excessively!) In reality life really is to short,do you want to waste it being incomplete? Those were the things I always thought of,and It made me realize that I really just want to be happy, and letting "food" rule my happiness is just silly.Once you have an eating disorder it will always be there to haunt you,it still does to me today, but I don't let it get a hold of me,I'm stronger than it is.So please don't worry about your fat%,work on every new day,and enjoy it...love your life...love the way you will become, which is healthy! Good luck to you,you will recover!
- It's not too low. Fitness mags claim to be healthy you need to be between 18 and 22 percent. But I can gaurantee that no woman on the cover is that high. You can still be healthy and lean. Try eating mixed nuts, avacados, and healthy oils like flaxseed. These are healthy fats that people don't get enough of. Eating these healthy fats make you lean. Just remember to keep up on your protein intake also. If you just want to gain weight, eating a lot of carbs and no exercise should do it quickly. Unused carbs are stored by the body. But that hinders your overall health. Stay healthy and take it slow. : )
- You are lean for a woman and that's not bad.
- Having 15% body fat is very lean for a female, typical of athletes. That said, I would never trust a body fat calculator to give you an accurate estimate. Here is a general body fat guide for females: Underfat: <12% Athletic: 14%-18% Lean: 20%-24% Average: 26%-28% Overfat: >30% *Females have about 8% more body fat than men due to increased amouts of essential and storage fat.
