body fat scale reviews

Is a scale that calculates your BMI reliable and accurate?

I got this scale at target for 30 bucks and im not sure if its accurate or not. Im scared though I have always been thin ,but since college I have gained that freshmen 15. I am 5 ft 0 and weigh 115 pounds and the scale says im 35% body fat!?!?! Thats like obese! I an not the most athletic person, but I have tried to take classes and work out and I don't eat too much of the wrong stuff.

  1. I think it's not. At 115 pounds 5ft0 u shouldn't be that fat. There are many other factors like your body type, frame/bones size, etc. In metric, BMI can be calculated by dividing your weight in kg by exp of your height in meter. If your BMI is over 25 then you're obese. 5ft is about 1.53m, and 115 is 52kg, so you are well, a little fat but still normal
  2. BMI isn't the same thing as body fat. I would trust a scale to tell me my BMI as long as it knew how tall I was, because it's a simple math formula. But body fat percentage depends on other things than your height and weight.
