Opinions please?

ok...summer is rolling around and I am trying to tone up and get "cut" as you could say. Some say I am small 5'11 at 155 pds. But as the BMI calculators say I have 21% body fat and I am trying to lower that to tone up my abs. I am on about 2600 calorie intake a day with 800 of those protein, 1600 carbs, and 400 fat.and I take whey protein twice a day with l-glutatmine 3 times a day. I go to the gym everyday and run about 2-3 miles + my workout weither it be arms or legs each day. My question is can I lose body fat to "show" my abs and also get "cut"/stronger? or do I have to choice one and go with it first?

  4. Hmmm. At 5"11 and only 155 pounds, I find it hard to believe you're at 21% bodyfat. I'd have guessed you'd be much lower than that, say, 15 or 16%. So just realize that these online calculators aren't really that accurate for bodyfat %. Anyway, let's move on with answering your question....I'm thinking your diet looks pretty well thought out. You certainly aint starvin yourself, which is smart. The whey protein and L-glutamine is all good, and your workout routines seem good too. Do you think you're overtraining, though? I mean, if you can work out like everyday without having to rest, it seems to me that you're not working out hard enough, because if you were, you'd need rest days in between. In any case, from the regimen you've outlined, then yes, I'd say you are well on track for cutting bodyfat and getting those abs to shine through by summer. Focus on the bodyfat loss for now as opposed to bulking up -- I like to jump rope and do sprint routines, as I find they get my system revved like you wouldn't believe. Keep it up.
  5. well, it looks like your set. the plan that you have set for yourself shows that you've done your research on how much of what your body needs in order to tone up/ build muscle. although you are a tad on the slim side, you with your routine, you should be fine. Now, your asking if you can lose weight AND still get cut/stronger. I would say yes you can, BUT, maybe not AS strong as if you went for a bulking phase and working with heavier weights at 4-6 reps. Big people are just stronger, bottom line. Beach muscles dont necessarily make you strong. They look nice, and they do have strength, thats not the main purpose of them. Thats why pro football players are not all cut and defined. my opinion, stick with your routine and just work hard. Take one of those protein shakes after you get back from the gym to help feed muscle recovery. Dont forget to get plenty of sleep too. Good luck.

  7. 5'11" & 155 lbs ... you are small ... I can't imagine that you have a lot of "fat" to shed ... Try pilates & yoga -- balance balls are terrific as well! Good luck!
  8. Your BMI is not your body fat percentage. So if your BMI is 21, that doesn't mean you have 21% body fat. Your predicted body fat percentage for your weight/height is about 17%, however as you are very athletic, it will most likely be much less. If you want your abs to show, then you are looking at around 10% body fat or less. But you need to find out exactly what your current percentage of body fat is. Have your body fat percentage tested at the gym. Good luck : )
