Whats the cheapest and easyest way to check your BMI or fat%?
Ive tried to check my BMI because im starting to work out, I was told to forget the scale by a doctor, and go off of BMI. Im 5'9'' 211 lbs but everyone is totally shocked when they look at me and i tell them that, mostly because i can still fit into Junior sizes... I want to loose about 45 lbs, what i gained when i was preggo with my son, taking myself down to a size 8 again, from what im reading that might be to much, one site had me put in figures and it said that i only had 32 lbs of body fat??? I dont think i have THAT much mussle on me... if thats the case i can only get down to 180 or so.... before pregnancy i was 155 or so, this is totally not making sence, any ideas on how i can get a acurate Fat % or BMI??

- The cheapest way to calculate your body mass index is through math. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention have a calculator on their website. http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm The most accurate way to calculate body mass index is an Immersion Test. That is were you to expel the air from your lungs and get dunked into a pool–half a dozen times. It under- or overestimates body fat by only 1 percentage point. The cost of that test varies and is available at most hospitals and some gyms.
- I highly suggest you forget about BMI and get a skinfold caliper (less then $10 at your local sporting good store) to measure your body fat %.
- This one lets you measure your body fat with a tape measure....not super accurate, but free, and better then a simply height/weight one. If you belong to a gym, ask there, most have them.
