- eat more fruits and veggies, lay off sugar, cookies, cokes, fried food etc. Drink low fat milk and lots of water
- Even for a dancer it's tough for women to go below 15% and you really wouldn't want to due to adverse health effects. What body fat would you like to get to - would 20% be acceptable. If so, 3.9% of 110 would only be about four pounds. Diet and exercise can do that, but a lot depends on your body type and genetics. 3,500 calories is a pound so losing a half pound a week would mean either reducing your caloric intake and/or increasing calories burned by 1,700 per week or about 240 calories a day.
- Remember, too, that body fat calculations are inexact. Nobody knows how much of you is lean muscle and how much is fat based only on your height and weight. It's entirely possible that you have less fat than that, but it would take a clinical setting to get actual measurements rather than calculations. I know they used to use a flotation tank to do these measurements, but I imagine there's better technology now.
- When you say you were shocked at how high your body fat was, I hope you realise that 24% body fat is ideal for a female. You may have been surprised that you didn't have a higher amount of lean mass considering that you are a dancer, but your actual body fat percentage is not high whatsoever. To build muscle, you need to eat a high protein diet: Chicken Turkey Lean beef/ham Eggs Fish Nuts & Seeds Beans & Pulses So with the right diet you can build up your lean mass, but believe me there is nothing wrong with having 24% body fat, that is very healthy.
