Vegetarians and body fat percentage?

Hi, I am vegetarian. I think it is a healthier diet than a nonvegetarian one if you are careful (e.g., emulate Jay Kordich, Jack Lalanne, Martina Navratilova, Bill Pearl etc...). My question is that what can I do to reduce my body fat percentage if I prefer to continue not to eat meat (including no chicken and fish, which I consider as meat)? I weigh 175 lbs (great for a guy in his late 20s), but my body fat percentage is 23 -- which I don't like, especially since a lot of the fat is concentrated in the sides of my waist and sides of my lower stomach and chest (and face every time I gain a few pounds of weight). I prefer not to see my total weight fall below 170 lbs, but I really would love to see my body fat percentage got to 17-18 percent. I think I can't make it go to under 15 percent due to genetics.

  1. You're question has nothing to do with being vegetarian. I'm vegetarian too but not because I think its healthier (although I do). If you want to reduce your body fat then do what everyone does, go to a gym or some sort of sport, it will turn fat into muscle. It may take longer though as you may not be eating enough fiber so make sure you do.
  2. eat everything low fat or non fat. and try eat more salad and less carbs. no suger or sweet for a while. no fry food or junk food. it is healtier anyway.
  3. Even though you're a vegetarian you might still be eating foods very high in fat. You need to go to the gym and gain muscle and lose that extra fat you have. Or talk to your doctor about a healthier way to lose weight. Good luck!
