Concerned about possible high Body Fat percentage?

Hiya everyone, I just have a little question about body fat etc. I've not had a chance to have my body fat calculated but from a hunch I would generalize that i'm not in a fantastic position regarding it. I've just turned 20, Male, I'm 5'10" and only 9.5 stone (133 pounds). However I feel quite flabby around the waist which doesn't seem like such a huge problem when i'm standing up, my navel just seems to be pretty average, not flat, but not fat either. However when I sit down, It's like i'm just as overweight as somebody almost obese. Hope i've made my dilemma as clear as possible and what would you suggest? People always comment me as being thin but from what I read, you can look slim to people but have a high body fat percentage. If I loose body fat won't that affect my overall weight? Which is already on the underweight scale for somebody of my height.

  1. http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/bmi.htm work out your BMI that way you will no whether you have excess fat.
  2. You don't sound fat to me. I think you are just out of condition. Go to a gym and get some proffessional help to tone up your whole body - especially your (at present) non-existent six-pack. They'll show you how to do weight training and you'll look like superman before too long. Extra muscle will make you a bit heavier too. Whatever your fat content, you will look much better with some well-defined muscle tone.
  3. Concentrate on overall fitness and maintaining a healthy heart. Nothing beats healthy eating. Eat a combination of lean protein and healthy carbohydrates every few hours throughout the day to speed up fat loss and maintain stable energy levels. For best results, eat six times a day. Weight train intensely, three times per week on alternating days with aerobic exercise three times per week. Eat your Protein from (lean chicken, fish, egg-whites and beans) Carbs from fruits and vegetables Drink 10 to 20 glasses water per day NO SODA
  4. Its possible to be skinny and still have relatively a high body fat % if you don't have much muscle bulk. It sounds like that might be your situation. I don't know what sort of suggestion you're looking for as you're clearly not fat enough for it to be a health risk.
  5. If you would like to have a low body fat % you will need to weight train and do cardio along with a healthy diet. As a male you tend to gain muscle quickly(faster then us females) and with the muscle gain and healthy high protein diet you will gain weight as muscle weighs more than fat. Make sure if you start an exercise regimen that you eat enough protein, otherwise your muscles won't develop. Also try not to eat any foods with trans fats(the man made fat) and eat as little processed food as possible. Processed food has high sodium and low nutritional value which will just add to a bigger midsection, sodium also makes you bloat causing a puffier(if that's a word LOL) stomach. Many people that are thin with high body fat may not eat healthily and although they are at a fine body weight they may be developing hypertension or other health problems related to diet. I'm not saying you are in this catergory but it is always good to eat healthy foods and be active. Good luck!! :)
  6. Try a few sit ups once in awhile. Don't eat before bed.
