Crunches, pushups..no cardio?
I'm 15, 5'8 and weigh 130. I'm wondering if it is possible to get at least a flat stomach(hoping for a 6 pack) without doing any type of cardio. I hurt my leg a year or so ago playin soccer and now it is quite painful to run as well as riding a bike. Swimming is also not possible as there are none close by. Also, is it possible to check my % body fat without going to the doctor? I am skinny, but I have a little fat on my stomach...can I get rid of this without cardio? Is there a specific type of fat that collects in your stomach area or is that just normal for guys?

- my gym teacher has a little machine that you hold onto and it tells you your body fat. but its not as accurate as the doctor's pinchy things. and yes its very possible, especially because 130 is very skinny for 5'8. just crunches and EAT RIGHT the only way to get a six pack is to have less fat* thats what really matters.
- no u have to do cardio to get rid of the fat around the stomach. u cant just do a ton of situps and expect a 6pack to just pop out. i bet if you did alot of cardio and didnt do any situps you would still have a 6pack when u lost enough weight. everyone has a 6 pack, its just hidden under fat. one suggestion too, dont just do 100 situps a day or whatever u do. get ur stamina up for situps and then add some weight to it. grab a 10 pound weight plate and hang onto it between ur arms and chest. then do ur situps. it will make ur 6 pack bigger and more noticable.
- do what i did 6"-lay down flat and use your stomach to lift your legs 6 in or 90 degrees i prefer 6 inches for 30 seconds (advanced- 1 in for a minute per set) crunches and regular sit ups (advanced- use a pull up bar or anything that can support your weight and wrap your legs around it ------ and put your legs on it so you are perpendicular to the floor and do sit ups that way) body fat % im not exactly sure but the doctor could definitely tell you
- Do your workout and then more like mix in 'dips' off two chairs or the bathtub. Pillattes style crunch workout is good too. Like put your right elbow to the left knee-vice versa and do it really fast for solid minutes. Rehab your knee too. My guess is you dont have to worry about body fat. Just eat right
- I'd have to say getting abs without running would be rather hard and others have mentioned some good things I'll just add a bit onto. To start try holding a weight [previously mentioned] and doing Elevated sit ups, start at a flat angle and work your way up. Before you go to bed do atleast 30 situps as fast as you can [Atleast under a minute] but other than that start a sit up and push up workout, Let me evaluate for you, try doing Sit up and crunches variations such as the bicycle and leg ups, [to do leg ups all you'd have to do it get on to a tree branch] To do leg ups start by dangling your legs down and then slowly lifting them so its like your sitting on the air and then let down slowly and make sure to breath. Also a healthy diet should help [That is if you don't already have one going] Stay away from Junk Foods. PERIOD. That about sums it all up. P.S - Regular Green Tea speeds up the Caloric Burning process. If you do try that, Don't put sugar in it just suck it up and put a little Milk in it. Which also helps to cool it down. =)
- Variety of exercise is the key I have found. For example..an exercise called Mountain Climbers. Its from a workout that also contains a section for females and males which is excellent. Mountain climbers are done by starting in a pushup position and then shuffling your feet in and out so that your knees are moving in under your chest and then back out to starting position. It sort of resembles climbing a mountain but flat on the floor. If you want an advanced version, you can also shuffle your hands 8-10 inches forward and backward in addition to the leg movements. This really makes it a full body exercise and MUCH more difficult than standard mountain climbers. After finishing each exercise, rest about 30 seconds before starting the next exercise. Rest about 1-2 minutes after completing each "tri-set" before repeating. This will give you one of the best ab workouts you've ever had without even doing any direct ab exercises. You'll see what I mean after you try it! Once you get away from the myth that a 1000 crunches and 500 situps a day is all you need to do for great abs, then amazing results can be seen. There is a completely free 65 page ebook about exercise, nutrition, abs and stomaches in particular at http://www.projext.co.uk that you can download (no catch!) and it is excellent. It helped me greatly.
