why Body fat percen.is a much important indicator than body mass index (BMI)?

Public Comments

  1. bmi is body fat percentage..
  2. as BMI includes not only fat but also protein and water which are not harmful .. so body fat percentage is good as it indicates fat only... so more important
  3. According to the BMI Brad Pitt is obese... It measures how much you weigh by how tall you are... But there are MANY factors in how much you weigh... If you have a lot of muscle then you weigh more... If you have a large bone structure you weigh more... Just like you can be aneroxiec and have a "Healthy" BMI while being DANGEROUSLY underweight... The BMI means NOTHING... The ONLY indicator of how "Healthy" you are comes from being looked at by a DOCTOR... You can be Skinny and DANGEROUSLY unhealthy just like you can be Heavy and PERFECTLY healthy... Each person is completely different then any other person... Something that will keep me alive to 110 years old might KILL you... So don't go by the BS that is the BMI. Get checked out by a doctor and THEY will tell you if you are healthy or not.
  4. BMI is a ratio of weight to height. If you are not unusually muscular, it can be a pretty good indicator of whether you are normal weight or not, but people like bodybuilders, because of the weight of all their muscle, have BMI numbers that would label them obese if you looked at nothing else. Body fat percentage will clarify this, and show whether you have a high BMI due to lots of fat or lots of muscle.
  5. Because body fat % actually calculates the amount of fat you have on your body. BMI is just a comparison of height and weight and does not take into account, frame size, bone density, muscle mass, etc.
