High percentage of body fat...what can I do?

I'm an eighteen year old female, 168cm (5'6"), 61kg (134 pounds), and i have a BMI of 21.7, which is in the 'normal' range. However, I recently joined a gym and discovered that i have a body fat percentage of over 30%, which is very high for someone of my age/height/etc. So, my question is, what weight should I be if I were to have a normal body fat percentage. I mean, how many kgs/pounds of fat should i lose to bring me to under 25% body fat which is considered 'normal'. I don't care about my weight so much but i do want to reduce my body fat. Currently I try to go to the gym 3 times a week for about 1-1.5 hours each session. I am using the treadmill, bikes, and lifting weights...but I don't know it doesnt seem to be helping? Thanks in advance for answering !

  1. well you are definitely on the right track. maybe watch what you eat or add an additonal day to your workouts. lifting weights will add muscle- which burns more fat. give it a month or more - you will start to notice a difference. since you're not really overweight, sometimes it's harder to see results right away. hang in there. losing slow and steady will keep it off, rather than fast.
  2. You don't need to worry about weight so much. It's more a case of changing your body composition, i.e. increasing muscle mass and decreasing body fat. For example, if you are at 30% body fat then you have around 40lb of fat and 94lb of lean mass. If you could get the lean mass up to 98lb and the fat down to 35lb, your weight would not really have changed, yet your body fat percentage would have gone from 30% down to 26%. What you are doing so far is great, but make sure you are lifting weights 2/3 times a week. You also have to make sure you are getting a sufficient amount of protein in your diet. For you, you are looking at getting 100g of protein a day.
