Are Body fat Index and BMI the same?

Like if you say you have 12% body fat, what would that be in BMI (body mass index). and how do you determine body fat besides using the little clamper thing? I always see tools on websights to determine BMI but never the percentage of body fat. Why is this

  1. They are very different things. All BMI determines is your weight and height, whereas body fat percentage actually determines whether or not you have too much fat. For example, if you're a body builder, you'll be very heavy for your height. BMI might say that you're obese. Body fat percentage would accurately tell that you're healthy and have little body fat percentage. You actually have to use the clampy thingies (or there is a sort of device you can hold, you don't feel a single thing) to determine body fat. You can't do that mathematically, only the machine can tell you whether or not you really have excess or too little fat in your body. BMI is very inaccurate and can lead to false statements. Would you consider a body builder obese? Or a lean person severely underweight? Or the muscular, thin girl to be overweight? It is NOT a good way to determine health.
