body fat scale reviews

My body fat percentage is too high. Why?

I have been getting my body fat percentage checked at the gym for the past 9 months and it's been the same since last week. It went up fom 29 to 30.5%. I am 31 years old, female, about 5 ft tall and weigh 115 lbs. My diet is very good. I consume 1500 calories a day. I eat steamed vegetables every day and fruit. I go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week. I do cardio, weight lifting, swimming, etc. Why is it still so high? I don't understand it. What happens if it gets higher? Please help.

  1. sounds fishy......go to your doc and tell him...could be a thyroid prob....or the body fat machine is broken
  2. The only thing that I can think of is that you aren't turning the fat into muscle... so your number is staying the same... I really don't know. Honestly, I think you should just ask the people who check it for you. They are the experts and since it sounds like you get checked frequently, you should be comfortable enough to say hey, I"m doing this, this, and this. I've lost x amount of pounds, yet my percentage is actually going up... why? Also, another note. There can be differences in the way the test is preformed... even if you get it done at the same place and everything. You may have someone who is just learning, or whatever. My gym who checks mine tries to make sure I test with the same person each time. But remember, I know it can be exciting to look at numbers, how much you lost in pounds, or by body fat percentage... but the best method to see your results is how you feel. Numbers don't mean anything, as long as you feel healthy and are able to lead a healthy lifestyle who cares?
  3. Fat doesn't turn into muscle and vice versa. You can diminish the size of your fat cells or eliminate them, but they will never change into muscle. I would listen to the first answerer and go to your doctor for a more accurate count.
  4. You can get an inaccurate reading if you.. - have eaten within 3 hours -drinking alot of water right before -had caffeine that day -are menstruating - have osteoporosis -not had a bowel movement recently Body fat percentages can flucuate within 2%. I wouldnt be too concerned.
